NYC Fashion Week; L.I.T.D's Fave Spring 2008 Collections

VENA CAVA

These two blew our minds this year! This native Los Angeles duo put together an extremely polished collection with some interesting Egyptian overtones, including a few gladiator sandals, taken from their new collaboration with Via Spiga. The color palate is simple, yet far from bland. We see a little Mad Max/warrior chic vibe in there, but overall this collection is elegant and refined; Fit for Nefertiti herself.

KAI KUHNE

We are so happy this dude got a second chance, thanks to one German venture capitalist, because we see potential, potential, potential! Wow! This collection really has a broad range in our opinion, from highly constructed dresses, to futuristic looking vests matched with mini shorts, to leather midi length skirts. Kuhne has a keen eye for detail, and his tailoring is absolutely flawless. We're looking forward to seeing what he does in the future.

RAG & BONE

This collection is nothing new, nothing really groundbreaking... But we adore these guys, what can we say! These two just opened the first ever Rag & Bone boutique in NYC just before premiering this radical RUDE GIRL line! There was an obvious PUNK influence, not surprising, considering the two are London natives. We Luv all the leathers, zippers, suspenders, fitted suit coats, and petal pushers...Typical Luv It To Death fashions...We need those carbon-blue stovepipes!

The guy is a genius, shit, what more is there to say.

BETSEY JOHNSON

If you are bored during fashion week, (it happens more than anyone knows, or cares to admit), there's always Betsey! Never a dull moment with this one, her babydoll/Peter Pan inspired collection was pretty crazy to say the least. Betsey, dressed as Pan for the show, did confess that some of the more "over-the-top" pieces will be adapted for retail, and that she wants to try to broaden the appeal of her label. Constantly focusing her perpetual energy in new directions, we're ALWAYS interested to see what she's doing. Betsey, we Luv the wigs!

MONIQUE LHUILIER

Oh...My...God.....That black dress brought a tear to our eye! SO beautiful! This is very unsurprising though, coming from Lhuilier, a chic woman specializing in evening wear, which she does without fault. The Berd House in Echo Park has to be the cutest gallery in the whole wide world! The show we checked out featured works by the moped gang The Late Birds. We were exhausted upon arrival, after spending all day at the Fuck Yeah Fest, but are so glad we took the time to walk a few blocks up the hill to check out this interesting and diverse show. We went down to the Small Bills art show last week to check out some bad ass work from a few of our favorite artists. Shepard Fairey was on the decks, and there were about a million people out in the parking lot. It was a good time, even if we did get there too late to indulge in the free colt 45...

If you live in LA, we're sure you've seen those cute little birds on wires all over the city. We Luv them, and are excited to reveal that the artist who creates these awesome little treats has his own gallery in Echo Park!

The Berd House is having a show this Saturday so DO NOT miss it! And if you live way far away, don't fret, we'll be there taking tons of pictures for you ;)

Here are a few fabulous events goin' on in the sunny city of angeles this weekend you won't wanna miss out on, whether you're just payin' a visit, or you're here forevs...

Buff Monster's "The Sweetest Thing" opens at 7pm on Saturday August 23rd at the Corey Helford Galley in Culver City. Remember to get there early so you don't miss out on the killer food spread and free booze!

If you're in the mood for a bigger bash, some tasty morsels, and some funky music, pay a visit to Silverlake this weekend for the 2008 Sunset Junction!

The cats at Tsunami Coffee House organize this amazing event every summer; Complete with a diverse group of vendors, featuring amazing artists such as our main man Albert Reyes, and 3 huge stages! This years line-up includes a few Luv It To Death faves: !!!(chk chk chk) and The Black Keys. Unfortunately Isaac passed away this month, so we won't be seein' him :( But...We hope to see YOU there, and don't forget to bring a lil' swigger full of porch climber to hit right before you step onto the The Graviton or The Zipper, rides notoriously run by seriously methed up carnies...!

NECK FACE CANNIBAL CARNIVAL

Neck Face's "Cannibal Carnival" show opened on Saturdy night at New Image Gallery in Hollywood. It was hot; Really, really hot. I'm not talking Paris Hilton "hot". I mean like temperature hot. Good thing we brought some ice cold beer. We loved the work, and the mini ramp was pretty amazing too...

ALEXANDER McQUEEN

Back in February, Alexander McQueen unveiled his FALL '08 collection in Paris. An elegant parade of crinolines and royal romance, by far his most brilliant, exciting work in years...

McQueen puts a rather dark and edgy twist on british royal nostalgia, "echoing the heydayof Norman Hartnell and Hardy Aimes' fifties British couture as worn by Queen Elisabeth II." (Sarah Mower for Style.com)

McQueen apparently evoked inspiration for these pieces from a 600 year old elm tree growing in his garden. He stated "I made up this story of a girl who lives in it and comes out of the darkness to meet a Prince and became a Queen." WOW! Gotta Luv that magical little kook! Of course, we can't forget Betsey Johnson, always a Luv It To Death fave!

The funky lady, famous for her crazy color combos, and gypsy-punk miss matched pieces, does it again! For her FALL collection, Betsey J created a dark, smokey runway in NYC's Bryant Park, complimented by exposed brick facades, live bongo players and even copies of Kerouac's "On The Road." Holly shit. What a perfect place for her fabulously styled, 50's-hip pieces

We are particularly keen on the lime colored Lurex leopard leggings! Fabulously matched with a black blazer and a chain adorned patent leather fanny pack. Dig on the cool hats too...

Betsey said she went for the "bold, black, beatnik" vibe in this show, but didn't forget to peep that rich, radiant color she is famous for! Luv that bright banana yellow sweater with an all over pistol print paired with black spandex and a studded belt

Our absolute FAVORITE inspirations for this FALL come from none other than Alexander Wang, who premiered a grungy, 'warrior-esque' collection in NYC

Zine Mania!

I remember back in the day "Zines" were scarce little artifacts made by creative, angst

filled suburban teens, crammed with comics, random ramblings, and magazine cut out collages likely composited at the local Kinkos. This past weekend, we visited a "Zine Fair" put on at SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS.

We're glad to see not much has changed in the Zine Scene!

It remains a fabulous and affordable way for artists to manifest lo-fi art for the peoples.

And there are tonz of new, emerging Zine creators out there, finding all sorts of interesting ways to construct new publications!

*2 ounces silver tequila

*3/4 ounce Cointreau

*1 ounces Sweet & Sour

*2 ounces guava nectar

*1/4 ounce Chambord

*handful of sliced strawberries

*cup of ice

Throw in a blender, or shake and serve, depending on how you like 'em ;)

VICE is NICE

Luv It To Death was asked by the NY blog The World's Best Ever to cover the Vice magazine photo show at the Scion gallery in Culver City last Saturday. We had a blast talking to Vice editors Amy and Briony about motor scooters, our love for oldies radio stations and of course, the art. The show featured works from the amazing Australian photographer Rennie Ellis, as well as three of Japan's hottest photographers Kawori Inbe, Jin Ohashi, and Yoshiki Saitoh. A special group of photos curated by Tiny Vices Tim Barber were also on display.
After we had downed enuff free sake we ran off with Junc gallery owner, Mike Kelly, to the Hi- Fructose show at Bergamot Station. The art was nice & the jelly beans were awesome!

We had an exhausting trip out to the boondocks to visit some super secret spots to pick through stashes of vintage treasures. Our sexxxy friend David, owner of Silver Lake vintage store Hung On You, came along for the ride. After days of shopping in sky high temperatures, sweating our asses off in tiny unairconditioned warehouses and dusty mom and pop shops, we couldn't wait to get back to LA. We rushed home at high speed to catch the WARHOL photo exhibit at the Michael Kohn Gallery. We were surprised to also see the beautifully psychedelic collages of Jean Conner. After that we needed more art and MORE ART! We headed Downtown to the Art Walk to get our fixxx. All that traveling and art made us hungry, so we got our grub on; 2 in the morning got the Fat Burger... Today was a good day.

Travels with Luv It To Death in Search of America

Took a trip East in search of Truth, Justice and the American Way...and of course the most incredible vintage treasures in the universe!! Here are a few pictures from our journey through gods country......We met some stylin' ladies who took us to Bob's, a great old man who gave us the finest Kentucky Bourbon and Genoa Salami's. Took a ride through town in a limo in Lexington, where Maggie met her favorite bong & visited a haunted asylum in Louisville......
